Updated notes-in-a-bottle, five of these (wayfarers, or wanderers) were cast adrift in the ocean currents between the Greek islands of Delos, Thera, and Therassia during May of 1998.  Others were left to mark the passage of days and nights on each of those islands and several New York cemeteries.

During the day, a solar battery charged a battery, which provided power to a radio transmitter.  The transmitted messages were samples of recorded text from the Odyssey.  For two minutes at dark, a strobe lamp in its left arm signaled presence.

The work and a video were later curated into an Exhibition titled, "Journeys: An exhibition Inspired by the Odyssey" at Lafayette College's Williams Center for the Arts by Michiko Okaya.  Click here to read a catalog excerpt with links to the video.
