I designed and built one of these lamps for my bookshelf while living in Manhattan in 1992. In 2003 Billy Kluver and Julie Martin visited San Diego to screen a recently completed film from the 9 Evenings project, and participate in an Art and Technology Festival held in their honor at San Diego State University. I had the lamp on the dining room table, overlooking the canyon. Billy liked the lamp a lot.
Working with Allyson Green on her dance theater work Archive of Happiness, I had occasion to create a series of works using my favorite vegetable steamer.
With avatars of Pina Bausch and Merce Cunningham gliding through the space, a sculpture was assembled (and played!) by the wonderful performers.
